Boarding went well onto Easyjet flight to Gatwick 10.05-11.35am
Ok we are all settled onto flight..............
The three of us together, looking after each and enjoying each others company and all the new experiences for the next 90 days.....
Everything going well until announcement came for any Doctor's or nurses on flight please make yourself known to Cabin Crew, holy moly what is going on we have only taken off about 10-15 minutes ago.
So I get ushered to near the front of the aeroplane to find an Aneasthetist already seeing a pregnant lady. She had felt unwell, palpitations and leg pain. Oh dear, poor girl and she was flying alone too. We wanted to lie her across the seats but because she was sitting on an exit row we had to move her. She felt fine but when she stood up she collapsed in the aisle. Now we had a different situation altogether. We had oxygen and that was all the medical equipment we had. Full history taken by myself and the Anaesthetist. The Pilot asked us if we wanted the plane diverted which at that point she started having abdominal pains so we both agreed 'yes please that would be good' as we were getting concerned about the baby too. We were now being diverted to Birmingham. Cabin crew wanted the lady in a chair for landing so we tried sitting her up but the poor girl was too dizzy so we asked the pilot if we could look after her on the floor in the aisle. The Pilot was fab and agreed as long as we strapped ourselves in. So in a very unorthodox fashion I was holding onto oxygen, leaning over the seat holding onto her hand and trying to talk to her through the landing. Landing was great by the Pilot, they had rapid response team meeting the aeroplane so all hands on deck to try get her off the aeroplane. There wasn't enough room to get both Paramedics in so I took her blood pressure which was fine and blood sugar which was low!! The girl managed to get a free Twix from Easyjet, drastic way to get a free Twix though I did say if she had fancied one I would've paid for it for her to save all this drama ha ha!! Lucky she was a nurse too and we both had wicked sense of humours!! Cabin crew, pilot, the girl and other passengers were all appreciative of our help but blimey I'm supposed to be having 3 months off ha ha! Anyway I feel better that I have done some voluntary work along the way thankfully we are on Euro Tunnel next so no flight drama's planned well not until our next flight maybe!!
Birmingham blue lights, lady in safe hands, we called the husband to divert to Birmingham rather than Gatwick and now the flight can continue to Gatwick! |
