Alesund 6th
May Day 20 of 91
We docked at 7am and
when Colin and I went up on deck 10 for our walk and jog on the running track at
separate times just in case you were wondering where Amy was! We both agreed this wasn’t the prettiest of
stops. Our first day of rain too since
leaving the Isle of Man.
Views
over to the other islands surrounding us at Alesund
The
main part of the town where Colin and I are heading once Amy is dropped off at
kid’s club. The white building on the
top of the hill is one of the tourist attractions but is up a steep set of
steps that is where we are heading later.
Looking
over the rest of the port, across the rest of Alesund and other islands behind.
Amy
decided as it was raining and there wasn’t much for her to do in the town she
would stay on the ship and go to kid’s club.
She loves going to kid’s club.
On
dry dock at Alesund
So the history goes
that the town was burnt down and rebuilt into an Art Deco city. There were a few pretty buildings around but
not many?!
We managed to find a
hotel offering a deal if you bought a coffee you got free Wifi, bargain!! And what a fab view at the same time J
Colin
in charge of checking the emails on the ipad and I am blogging!!
Our
good deal hotel!!
Certainly
a fishing city if this is one of the local shops on the street!
Very
pretty street but the city is hilly!
Beautiful
hotel just shame about the roadworks outside
Well this is it the
start of the hill to climb to that white building offering panoramic views over
the city
418
steps but the steps are cut out of the rock, uneven and because of the rain
they are slippery too!
Rock steps, wooden
steps and some concrete steps they did put a warning at the start saying the
steps were uneven!!
3266 I also like setting a challenge for Colin
when he has the camera ha ha!! So today
was to get a picture like I have the cruise ship in my hand!! He did a really good job, well done Col xxx
Climbing higher
still!!!
View over the city
from the top, woop woop we have made it J If you see where the fastcraft is heading
into the small harbour the white hotel on the edge of the water on the left of
the small harbour was our free Wifi hotel and that was the full view that we
were looking onto whilst doing our blogging!
Closer
up view of the hotel, the white building on the left with the windows right on
the edge of the small harbour, beautiful setting
We have
just read there is a subsea tunnel underneath this space of sea in the photo
from Alesund to Ellingsoy a total of 7.700m approximately 10 minute drive.
Looking
down, eeek!!
Instead of going down
the slippery steps we decided to take a forest walk back down a much longer way
but it is only the two of us so we’ll enjoy the exercise! And here we are finding a digger along the
way, trying to break into it but there are no tyres on the digger so I wouldn’t
get very far at all!!!
We
were supposed to come to dams but we were expecting a bit more than that little
piece of water behind me surely ?!?!?!?
Yes it is still raining but it’s not that
heavy so it is okay to walk in.
The
forest we are walking through and the city below us, missing my jazz hands
partner!
Now here I am messing
about with the camera again!! So the
camera is on the bench and we clamber down in amongst the trees to get this
picture. But we are messing about and
Colin spots an old man walking through the forest too who looks at us like we
are crazy loons, well he isn’t far wrong but Colin is telling him that there is
a camera on the bench but we don’t know Norwegian and he doesn’t know
English!! Ha Ha!!
This
is where I thought I would put Colin in a head lock but you can see Colin has
spotted the man!
Hilarious!!!!
Colin scuttling off
in a hurry hee hee!!!
So
when we come out of the forest we are right in the middle of a residential
area?!
A
suburb called Fjelltun not sure where the Cuba came from?
Going downhill now!
We
are walking down the hill when we come across this very modern glass cube for a
house which is glass but has blinds all the way round in the middle of some old
looking houses, weird!
This
picture shows how high up we were but this wasn’t the way we came down we came
a much longer way! Good exercise and
trying to burn off all the delicious food we have been eating!!
We
went back on the ship for late lunch I’m sure they have covered for every
request of sauce you can think of don’t you think?!?!?!
How
very British Colly Cup of tea with Scone and Strawberry Jam
Here we are we’ve
picked Amy up at 4.50pm. Amy had an
absolute ball with the other children and teachers all day! The teachers took the children for lunch
too! The octopus is a prize for second
place for getting the most answers correct on countries and flags of the world. Amy was teaching them about the Isle of Man!
Amy is now keen to go
back to the Pyjama party at 7pm as it is movie night too!!
Amy
the Play Doh figure!
Amy
getting dropped off at Pyjama party!
Here
is us showing how sad we are that Amy has gone to kid’s club but then …..
We are happy again as
we get to have tea the two of us, have a drink and watch some of the
entertainment!
Colly
doesn’t have anyone to share the bread with tonight!!
At
the theatre to watch the show but tonight is Swing Night, not our cup of tea
We
went out on deck to watch us leave Alesund, what we have just left
Behind
us
Ahead
of us islands to the right and then just sea!!!
Tomorrow is Olden and
we are planning going to see a Glazier, exciting!!!
