Leaving New York and arriving in Orlando - 27th May

Leaving New York

Our main entrance and lobby to our hotel would be something special I think with escalators and pretty chandeliers but this is the view we had as the entrance is under renovation!

Here we are going on the PATH to head to Newark airport.  It is funny everywhere else we would have said no thanks but a guy offered to help us through the turnstiles with our cases, thank you kind man xx
So we head down the escalator towards our platform for our train and don’t realise there are two trains that use this same track I think you know what happens next…..  We jump on the first train that comes and then 5 minutes later realise woops, wrong train so we go back to the start again and then get on the right train!  We land at Newark train station and then the plan was to go on the airtrack to Newark airport but the airtrack line is under renovations so they are directing us to the bus service.  Well thankfully we left in plenty of time to catch our aeroplane.  We head down into the bus station and see a bus with Newark airport on it but the doors are closed so Colin taps on the doors but the lady bus driver does not in the slightest look impressed with Colin, hilarious seeing her facial expressions!!  So she tells him to go to platform 3a for the airport bus so that is just what we do.  The funny thing was that within a few minutes the not so friendly lady bus driver drives the bus to platform 3a ha ha!!  We get the bus for $3 to the airport, bargain but this is not a designated airport bus this is a regular bus so there isn’t anywhere for the suitcases and the bus is busy!  So Amy and I go to the back of the bus with our hand luggage and leave Colin at the front with the suitcases.  Each stop we make through the suburb of Newark there are more and more people getting on, this bus must be full capacity but then ………

Amy and I are in stitches at the back of the bus as now there isn’t enough room down the front of the bus for the suitcases so Colin has one of the cases on his lap.  I am sure Colin is enjoying this ride to the airport ha ha!!!  NOT!!!!!

So we head into the airport and see there are no check-in staff only self-service check outs so here we go, scan passports, print our boarding cards and print off baggage labels.  There is a guy behind the counter throwing and I mean throwing the bags onto the carousel once they have been labelled, all done!!  Now to go through security!

Amy has been badgering us since we got to the airport to set up Yorkie’s seat so here she is.  Amy packed this seat for her build-a-bear and it has been sitting in her suitcase since we left Isle of Man but here we go Yorkie looks comfy don’t you think!!  Amy says Yorkie likes her seat but is getting nervous about flying!

Amy keen to pull her suitcase now she has Yorkie on it!!

Grabbed lunch before we head on the aeroplane, yummy!

Our flight on United Airlines

Think we might be at United terminal with all these aircrafts sitting outside!

Orlando boarding, woop woop!!!  All very excited now, apart from Yorkie as Amy tells me she is nervous flying for the first time, sweet xxx

Jemima has been ditched for Yorkie, poor Jemima is in the suitcase L

Do you think this would be Colin’s tipple???

We sat on the tarmac for an hour due to minor technical difficulties but then we got going, hooray!!!

Bridges in sight over the wing!

Bye Bye New York, Amy is getting soooo excited about Orlando!!!!

Yorkie isn’t sure of the noise of flying but I am sure she will be fine it is only a 2 hour 45 minute flight!  Amy manages to get an hour sleep as we have had jam packed days in New York with lots of walking and late nights batteries need recharging for more excitement!!

Arriving in Orlando xx

Amy nearly squeezed our hands and arms off when we landed with her excited squeezometer that she does when she is excited!!!  Here we are we have made it to the terminal building but we need to take the train to the baggage collection point, this airport is absolutely massive!!

Had to get a sign to prove that we are here, reality check we are in ORLANDO!!!!

Wow Despicable Me picture at Universal, oh Amy we are going there, woop woop!!  Let’s go and get the hire car

We had a guy who was very obnoxious as we didn’t want to upgrade from the car that we had paid for with a Cherokee big yute thing, why would we need one of those?!  He was trying to tell us that we wouldn’t fit our suitcases and the three of us in the car that we ordered, ofcourse we will Marty!  He then wanted to sell us a tank of petrol which he said would cost $3.27 from him but $5 at the petrol stations, so we ended It was really funny as we didn’t get our car keys we got directed to the car park to where the cars were.  So you look for the sign of the class of vehicle you have paid for and then all cars have their keys in them so you pick a car, drive off and then get to the barrier where they scan the barcode of your paperwork and the car together then it is ‘Have a nice day!’  Hooray!!!

We have chosen the silver Ford Escape

Getting loaded up, we took Amy’s booster seat with us so Amy is all sorted :O)

Really weird as they don’t have number plates on the front of the car

Our number plate
So we start driving and the drive from the airport is only supposed to take half an hour so happy days arrive at 7.32pm, perfect!  But then we do a few turns and we end up in a little lane and the satnav says that we are at our destination, eh don’t think so!  So we reset the satnav and enter the address again and it now says we are 40 minutes away from Kissimmee, oh what not sure what happened but we have come the completely wrong direction L  So we go along our merry way again and we check every sign post to make sure the satnav is working correctly.  We are blaming our guy Marty from the car hire as he didn’t like us for not upgrading our car for the satnav not working!  Ha ha, anyway eventually we end up close to our house and pick up a few groceries for the morning!  Now it is really late but we are all getting excited to see the house that we have rented for the 2 weeks JJJ

Here we are, we open the front door and we are met with this view! WOW!  Living room, formal dining area leading onto ……

Family sitting room leading onto …..

Kitchen with breakfast bar and informal dining area

Kitchen

Bit dark but this is the pool

Amy has 6 bedrooms to choose from so she is darting about the house, giggling and keeps on shouting ‘I feel like I am going to burst with excitement!’  She is close to tears with joy, lovely to see she is so happy and appreciative of the house!  This is Amy’s bed for the 2 weeks!

We haven’t had any tea so we are having girlie Nutella spread on toast before bed, yummy!!
Excited to be able to unpack our clothes and things for 2 weeks, cook and wash our clothes in a washing machine!
Night night everyone, we have parks to explore tomorrow!!

Day 3 New York

Day 3 - New York

Happy Memorial Day everyone XXX

555   Today same old, same old routine, swim and breakfast and because it is Monday we took the Path to World Trade Centre stop.  We headed to Century 21 bargain designer shop a bit like T K Maxx but this shop is massive with 6 floors.  We go for a look as we are out all day and if we see anything we will come back later and buy it, the shop is open until 9pm!  The thermometer on the wall says 76degrees F and it is 10am!

What a perfect top for our Big Holiday Adventure our lives are revolving around selfie’s ha ha!!!  You’ll all be glad to know that Amy didn’t buy this bright orange top so it won’t be appearing in the photos!

Now this is the type of mousse Colin should be buying!!!!

We are on Broadway in the biggest Pandora shop we have ever been in and Amy has just bought the Statue of Liberty charm for her bracelet XXX

We jump on the subway and head towards Central Park for Amy’s day, a day we do whatever she wants!

We grab lunch at a salad bar and Colin and I have a freshly made fresh fruit smoothie, delicious and Amy sticks to her water!  Let’s go to Central Park and eat, drink and be merry!

Here we are having our picnic in Central Park sitting on part of the Schist, chilled day today!!

We head further into the park and Amy spies a water fountain area, we came prepared today with swimmers so Amy is off and getting wet to keep cool as the temperature was supposed to be 86 degrees F which is 30 degrees C!

Getting soaked!

Amy is having a blast but it is really busy at the water area!!  That is because it is a HOT Memorial Day with temperatures forecast for 89degrees F which is 31-32 degrees C.  This is the official day to mark the start of summer Bo)

Then Colin and Amy do a spot of Schist rock climbing on this big piece of rock in the middle of this play park

Here they are starting to climb!

We went for wander through the park heading towards the boating lake, one of Amy’s wishes not on her wish list but she spied the boats yesterday on the hop on hop off bus.  The green grassy areas are just sea of pink bodies!!  The guide says that we will be a 25 minute walk to the boating lake and that is about half way through the park, wow this park is massive!!!  All 843 acres of landscape with a zoo, castle, reservoir, play parks and loads of grassy areas.  It is hard to believe when you are walking through the park that you are in the middle of New York!

And then we come to a skate park, funny look at these dudes one with the American flag trousers and the dude looking like he was transported from the 70’s.  There were other men just showing off their muscles in varying degree of dance moves!!  There were other people just grooving to the music!

Yippee we have found the boating lake now just to find the Boathouse to get a boat!

Pretty bird making pretty songs!

Trying out the self-timer mode on my new toy, oh yeah it’s working too!!

We had a wander through the forest, it was lovely and shaded and beautiful walk but still no Boathouse!

Okay here we go, here is the queue for the boats!  40 minute wait so wasn't too bad.  $15 for an hour per boat, bargain!!

Someone hired a gondola on the boating lake but we are going the self-propelled route or should I say Colin propelled route!

Amy is all ready to go in her life jacket

Our Captain Colly Jolly just trying to get us away from the bedlam!

The girls on the boat

Amy decided she wanted to help row too!

Amy is doing a good job helping Colin rowing but under that bridge is a dead end!

Here I go I am chilling and enjoying the ride and also messing about with the camera again!  The view across the boating lake

Another dead end

Poor Amy doing all the work now Colin is just chilling!

Sweaty hard working girl!

Another bridge but this one is the way back

Amy admiring the views around us

Amy having a ball rowing

The rowers!!

Off the boats and another random sight you can get poetry typed on an old fashioned typewriter, random sights in Central Park

Fountain and boating lake behind but next it is the trolley sellers to buy water, thirsty work that rowing!

Next stop on the way out is Daddy’s wish list – Strawberry fields

Imagine memorial to John Lennon.  The area of the park was designated memorial to John Lennon as he was shot outside his apartment which is a few minute walk away

And here we are a few minute walk and John Lennon’s apartment where Yuko Ono still lives

The entrance where John Lennon was shot in 1980, the doormen are looking pretty chilled out!
We headed back on the subway to World Trade Centre to go back to Century 21 to get a few bits that we had seen in the morning.  We went into the department store at 7pm and it felt like we were only in there for half an hour but the announcement came over the tannoy that the store was closing and that only meant one thing, it was 9pm!!!  Where had the last two hours gone but Amy got some new Timberland sandals, new dress, Colin got new swim shorts, pair of flip flops and I got a pair of flip flops so we were all happy but very tired bunnies!!  We headed to McDonald’s for a quick bite to eat and then headed home on the PATH.  Night night New York tomorrow is Orlando, if we weren’t sooooo tired after jam-packed adventurous days we would be able to be excited about our next adventure but it’s good night from all of us XxX
