Day 3 - Vancouver - 12th June

Day 3

12th June in Vancouver

Today we are going to have a chilled day just pottering around North Vancouver as we saw all the sights we wanted to see yesterday!

Let’s get a new hairstyle today then!!

Heading out for a wander

We came across Waterfront Park that sounds ideal place to chill!

Playpark

Spinny thing Amy loves

A helping hand on the bouncy stepping stones

The sculpture is supposed to replicate the mountains!
Just like our view rubbish or like Amy said 'it is just what you call art mummy!'

We are sitting on steps watching the boats go by

The crew with their binoculars out!

Set up the camera and take the three shots so you know what is going to happen for the next shot …….

the funny one!!!  Just to make everyone :O)

And again, sensible and then ….

Crazy Buffoons!!!

On the seawall are mosaics of insects and bugs, so Amy go and pick your favourite mosaic and I’ll take a photo!

Now we all pick one and Amy is photographer!

Flicked onto my fancy photo taking now!!

My turn in the hands of Amy!!

The hazy look!!

Colin’s turn with Amy now!

Nice one too!

Colin’s turn at the fancy shots!

Amy had to have another turn on the spinning wheels, here she comes back again!

Little marina beside where we were sitting!

Time for lunch now as we were heading through the Quayside Plaza we are handed Very Berry Hibiscus drink, unusual tasting!!

Lunch from the Lonsdale Market from the International Food Court, I have gone to the Curry Point for chicken and vegetable curry

Colin has gone to the Teriyaki Bar

And Amy originally had Chicken Dip em’s with chips but it has turned into a girl’s sharing lunchtime!

Amy was excited as we treated her to a cookie for pudding but one bite and she didn’t like it, oh what can Canadian’s not make cookies to Amy’s standards!!  One thing for sure is that Amy will be living off of cookies for the next week so she isn’t that bothered!

We headed to the Marketplace supermarket for a few bits and pieces for tea tonight and breakfast tomorrow

Hot sauce in a coffin oh boy even Colin doesn’t want to try this one!!

Glutino crackers which Alison introduced me to, yummy my favourite that is my tea sorted!!  All the blue tickets on the shelf are gluten free products, yummy what a choice!!

Oh yeah Colin it is Father’s day on Sunday so good advert on the Liquor store!!  Go on then treat yourself to a bottle of wine!

The side of our hotel

The window cleaner just hanging on a pulley rope!

Some welding going on at the shipyards just outside our hotel

We have a microwave in our room so here it goes the Chef Colin is back on duty!!!

The chefs at work checking on the popcorn

Got the popcorn now where is the movie oh yeah the US Open is on, this is the best viewing around!!  Colin is finding it a bit strange being this side of the water as he is used to watching the golf in the evening time rather than during the day!

We were all sitting in the hotel room when we heard sirens outside so we had a peak outside the window.  Oh boy one undercover police car and 2 official police cars, oh boy what is going on!!

Now we can see as they have asked the dude to stand out of his car but he is struggling to stand up either he thinks he is on a cruise ship or maybe he has had a few too many adult juices as Amy calls them!  After the Breathalyzer is done it is handcuffs on as ‘Your nicked mate!’   But he has a dog in the car with a pink and lilac coat and bow on so Amy is worrying about the dog!!

But then the car gets towed away, handcuffs are off, paperwork is done and he is off swaying down the road!!  Glad he is off the roads and didn’t cause any damage to anything or anybody, well done Vancouver police!!!

Anyway after that excitement it was our mix and match tea, bath and then made a few phone calls to Australia to finalise our accommodation when we eventually get there!  We had to speak to Amy’s school to make sure that we could enrol her with where we will be staying initially as we will be outside of the catchment area for her school, we have got their permission, yeehah!!!  That is us now got 6 weeks accommodation sorted for when we arrive with our mate Barry who we stayed with over Christmas 2012.  Amy is excited as we are talking about her school but then she says she is nervous which is understandable and the closer and closer we are getting to arriving in Australia we are all feeling the ‘oh gosh’ moments we really are doing this!!!

Colin had a call set up for last week with the agency he has been in contact with and had interviews with when we were in Adelaide in 2011 and 2012 but they cancelled the day before due to the girl going on leave.  So he made a call to the agency and they are happy for him just to attend for an interview when we arrive to touch base and see what is on the market then for him, the job market for Colin is good at the moment so let’s hope it continues until we arrive!

I was planning applying for a Casual position in the big teaching hospital before I arrived but it seems I need to be an Australian Citizen to work as a Casual Nurse in the big hospital but at least I have a job to go to already so no worries there.  I rang the girl I had been in contact with as I didn’t know why it was different applying criteria between the two hospitals and she is going to get back to me.   She has told me if I wanted to apply for a permanent part-time or full-time position she would be happy to accept my application form and will make some time for me when we arrive to discuss the jobs going so that is good.  So all our bits and pieces for Australia are set up, so now we can relax a bit again as we have no internet access for a week or so again!!
